Course Overview

Techniques and materials covered include mixed media, drawing, printing, photography and painting. Students are assessed in 4 areas for each project as well as the externally set exam:

  1. Development of ideas, including artist studies, artist research and discussing ideas through writing
  2. Refining ideas using different media, paints, pen, techniques and experimentation
  3. Recording ideas through drawing, photography and clear writing skills
  4. Present a final piece with an evaluation

To support the students’ studies, we visit numerous areas of interest throughout the academic year.

Coursework/Exams

The Art GCSE is a 2-year course, starting in Year 10, consisting of two components. Component 1 is an Art Portfolio and this makes up 60% of the final grade, whilst Component 2 is the externally set project alongside a 10-hour practical exam, which makes up the other 40% of the entire grade.
